6 OF THE BEST MID-RISE JEANS TO WEAR NOW

the best mid-rise-jeans to wear now

As the debate over whether skinnies are out rages on (ad nauseam) I want to turn your attention to mid-rise jeans. Personally I still love my skinnies actually along with flares & wide legs however what I haven’t worn in a while are my low-rise jeans. How ’bout you?

Somewhere along the way I went off them, not sure why exactly. Perhaps I just feel more pulled together with a higher waist? My tummy is very soft now with little muscle tone if any. Therefore the excess loose skin created from three pregnancies turns into a pot belly the moment I eat a meal. Obviously I haven’t been doing the crunches or sit ups needed to tone this pouch… whoops oh well.  Maybe that has something to do with it? Whatever the reason, my eye is drawn to the mid-rise fit more often than not, it’s more flattering on me now particularly with a tucked in top. I believe once you find the right leg style to suit your silhouette, the mid-rise will do wonders to balance almost any body shape. Some brands even incorporate tummy control thus avoiding the muffin top scenario we all detest. Don’t get me wrong I equally adore the high-rise & high-waisted jeans around at the moment although I’m wondering just how forgiving they’d be with my low-rise boobies? Sure they would give me legs for days but then cut my torso in half which is not a good look, or is it? Have a look at these sexy vintage inspired flares by jean queen Donna Ida, on sale for £35! I will wrestle with this life altering conundrum further another time….

For today’s post let’s take a look at the best mid-rise jeans I’ve found on the market now. The pair I’m wearing here are by AG – see them styled differently here. I had heard great things about Adriano Goldschmied jeans so I decided to try a second-hand pair from Ebay. This is a great way to road test jeans before paying full whack. You know in case you don’t like them? I do it a lot with jeans because it’s particularly tricky finding the perfect fit, often taking a few wears before I know. Which basically means if I don’t like them I’m not stuck with an expensive purchase. Anyway if you haven’t guessed, I absolutely adore these jeans so will definitely buy a new pair for winter. Probably the grey ones below although I am liking velvet for cooler months & haven’t owned a pair since my old Bettina Liano ones split across my butt.

MULES I LOVE

Mules aren’t going away any time soon which is absolutely fine by me, a big fan. Although I only own two pairs, this espadrille style & the more popular black leather with block heel. Here are a few of my choice picks if you’re in the market for a pair.

Dinosaur T-Shirt

My dino Tee is actually from the boy’s department of our local Sainsburys grocery store. I was going through the sale rail one day & spotted this unique print when I thought Hmmm I can squeeze into that! The subtle colour palette has a vintage retro vibe perfect for my sartorial style. However it was the dino theme that ultimately tickled my fancy enough to buy it. I mean who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Sadly the closest I found to a match is this Redbubble T-shirt. Although I think it’s still pretty cool plus it comes in 18 different colours!

See ya next week lovelies, xxx

70’s vibe going on here! I like it!
Ever since you first posted that boys tee, there has been some fluidity between my tee shirt drawer and my eldest son’s… very clever!

I couldn’t get on with the high-rise – because my whole body is squashed into a 5 foot 2 (3 in my 20’s!) frame. They made my waist look like a dent under my boobs. So, needless to say I am finding you wearing mid-rise jeans hugely comforting. As far as muffin top issues- there’s so many gorgeous swing tops around these days. Happy days! x

Hi Maria, Yeah I don’t think you’re alone with that analysis of high rise jeans. Even on taller women they’re tricky to wear. I’m still thinking about this one 😉 xx

I had a good laugh when I opened your post and started to scroll down. Right in the middle of your mons pubis (I think that is the right translation) it said: Pin this! Whahaha. As if you were saying: “How about this guys? Isn’t it great??”
Anyway, high rise, mid rise, low rise, flared, cropped, skinny, straight…. it is all good with me. It totally depends on what I am wearing on top of it. High rise flared jeans? A tailored jacket is a must. Boyfriend jeans with cropped legs? Something sportive tucked in at the front. Skinnies? Anything long or just beneath my butt. Or if the jeans are really good, I can sometimes show my butt.
Unlike you I have a belly which isn’t just loose skin, but is also increasing in size during the day. It is actually at least another size and one hole on my belt difference. Doesn’t even look close to your flat stomach. But… I have become pretty clever in hiding that. In whatever type of jeans. As you said in an earlier post: spend money on the best jeans you can find for you. You will wear them more than anything else.

Hmm I still err on the side of low rise – especially post 3 kids – I tried high rise by mistake recently and had awful flash backs to teen years wriggling into skinny jeans that you could never do the button and zip up on 😂

OMG you just reminded me of the days before elastane! I do recall lying on my bed with a coat hanger through the zip of a pair of skin tight jeans, trying desperately to pull it up. Gord what an image eh Sara? I know I’ll end up going back to the low risers 😉

I have some Dino print pjs from the kids aisle!

I love a mid or high rise. Low rise remind me of too many flashes of thong/ bum crack in the 90’s when jeans barely seemed to cover the bikini line!

Oh wow how cute Rachel, I’d love dino pj’s! I know what you mean about the visible thong & builders bum, never was a fan of that look…ick!

Oh I am a dedicated mid-riser too! For all the reasons you mention. Low rise makes me feel really uncomfortable, visually and physically (always feel like they’re going to fall down, monstrous play-dough tummy overhang, never dare bend over. eeuw…) and high-rise, although I have a few pairs, just feel irritating round my middle and disturbingly close to the boobage (love your low-rise boob description!!) I’ll be looking for some new mid-rise flares and straight legs for the winter, and some skinnies to wear with knee-high boots, still love that look. Thanks for the suggestions. The AG ones look fab on you, as does the dino t-shirt. What a great idea to nab one from the boys’ section. X
